The Ray is Fired at..

Somewhere on the outskirts of Neopia, a remote island hosts the crowning achievement of a brilliantly deranged mind. Since no one is really sure of his true name, most call him "the mad scientist." You can access the scientist's greatest achievement, the Secret Laboratory Ray. The ray can alter your pet's color, stats and even gender. How can you get the access to the ray? Is it the right thing for me to do? Is it really worth doing? All your questions hopefully will be answered in this little how-to. Feel free to comment on how the lab is going for you!

What The Ray Does

The ray, when fired at your pet, can do several things.

• Change your pet's species.
• Change your pet's color.
• Change your pet's gender.
• Raise or lower your pet's strength, agility, level, or defense.
• Raise your pet's hit points. (Up to 5 at a time.)
• Do absolutely nothing at all.

Colors

Of those painted colors, the lab can create colors that there are no paintbrushes for. (However you can get these colors through fountain quests.) You can view an example of each color in the table below.

How To Get To The Lab

In order to access the lab you need to find 9 pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map. They are easy to find through trades as whole collections, but they do cost a lot. You will need to decide if it is worth spending your hard-earned neopoints on. However, if you do use it often, it could really be worth it. Any who, there are 9 pieces that, as you can see here. If you decide to collect, you can place them all into your inventory and visit here. Once you have traded in your map for access to the lab, your map pieces will disappear forever. However, you will always have access to it. If you have access to the lab, you can visit it here.

Should I get the Maps?

In order to decide this you need to realize and weight-out the benefits and negatives of the lab. The lab can allow you to have unlimited access (well limited to once a day) to the ability to minimally or dramatically change your pet. Also keep in mind your pet's name. If you have a name of a species, realize it could be changed to another species. If you have MrToughGuy980, it could be turned into a female faerie! Benefits?

You can also earn an avatar only available through the lab ray.This avatar is only available when the lab changes the species of your pet.

Remember that the changes the lab makes can never be un-done, but you can always re-zap another day and hope for something better.

Another thing that can happen is you can receive a battledome challenger. This is a random event that will take place at the lab.
