Lately, TNT is freezing people like it's too hot on Neopets. Haha, well, this is no time for jokes. If you aren't careful, you can be frozen, too! Lately, people have been frozen for the slightest things that you couldn't have possibly gotten frozen for, before! Well, this guide will bring you through the NeoRules, step by step. Hey, you want to keep your account, right? Well, if you understand the rules, you will be just fine.
Neopets Rule #1 - Posting any offensive or nasty messages of any kind. This includes: profanity, disgusting or violent situations, insults/harassment of players, hentei, orientations, nasty pics, nasty symbols, or any kind of *naughty* talk. (And using spaces, symbols or creative spelling to try to hide those words is not fooling anyone.)
Okay, I admit I took out a couple of words and exchanged them with 'nasty', or took out a section altogether. Look, if you really want the real version of the rules, check for yourself.
No matter which way I put the first rule, though, it makes its point pretty clearly. Don't talk about people in a bad way on Neopets by harassing them or picking on them in any way. This can be anywhere from simply telling someone that they're worthless or just flat out degrading them. It depends on what mood that Neo is in, they will freeze you or suspend you. Now on to the 'nasty' side Please be mature. It's gross to everyone on Neo when people talk about nasty things on the Neoboards. Please ignore these boards so that they can be bumped down. Or, simply stop making them. They aren't cool.
Things to Avoid
*Don't make fun of anyone on the neoboards! This will most likely result in suspension, but if it gets out of hand, you will be frozen.
*Keep gross photos out of your lookup! This is gross to everyone on Neo, and there's no doubt that you'll be frozen! Many people will report you and your lookup. So, please, keep it somewhere else.
*Do not, in any way, talk nasty on the neoboards. This is just sick! But, really, please don't. This is offensive to everyone, and it kind of degrades yourself.
Neopets Rule #2 - Neopets is not a dating agency: Posting any offensive or nasty messages, including while role-playing as your pets. This also includes nasty role-play, advertising dating/mating/marriage websites, dating guilds, or chat boards for you or your Neopet. Neopets is not the place to try to find a boyfriend/girlfriend for yourself, your friend or your Neopet. We do not condone the posting of message boards that invite other users for *naughty* or *hot* chats or other such inappropriate offsite activity, even by implication.
This is a lot like the first rule, except this is a little more romance-y. They will try to get dates, or whatever, and list their age, gender, where they live, etc. People actually come to the board and try to talk about it, and that's where the freezing comes in. The creator of the board will get suspended/frozen as it is, but the people who are trying to hook up with them will run the risk of getting suspended/frozen as well.
Also, don't talk about this in your guild at all. I know, even if your boyfriend/girlfriend plays, leave the all that for the phone. It would be a sad day if you and your friend were frozen for the same thing, right? Well, don't talk about this in the guild! It isn't the place, and if you're in a roleplay guild, leave that to talk about the Warriors series, or other roleplaying ideas. Don't risk losing your account for an interesting boyfriend/girlfriend topic, though!!
This, I thought, would be obvious, but some people do it for attention Don't, for any reason, advertise for dating, marriage, or adult websites! This can be offensive to young kids (who do play the site!) and even to the older set. Nobody cares, we can find people in our own area, thank you very much!
Things to Avoid
*On the neoboards, avoid getting involved in any dating posts or boards. It's not worth getting your account frozen to get involved with people you don't even know. This could get you in a lot of trouble.
*On the neoboards and in your guild, do not post any dating or adult websites. People will not hesitate to report you, getting you suspended or most likely frozen.
*In your guild, do not make any references to dating. They should not be dating or marriage guilds, or even refer to your pets dating. Yes, I have seen people get frozen for that!
*Don't talk nasty. Period.
Neopets Rule #3 - Impersonating Neostaff or claiming to have special influence with members of the Neopets Staff [is against the rules]. Remember -- Neopets staff will never contact you through instant messengers, phone calls, private neomails or personal emails. The only way we will contact you is through the neopets.com email address or from the account, theneopetsteam. And we will never ever ask you for your password!
So many times have people said that they know 'special codes' to get you free neopoints, since they're aunt works for Neopets. Believe me, nobody who works for Neo uses any 'codes' for neopoints. They earn them all the same. So, if you're simply trying to pull a prank, don't especially if you want to keep your account. Do not fall for the emails, also, about people being Neopets. Also, don't do them. These are extremely risky, and even though it's harder to get caught, it's definitely not a great thing to do. People may find a way for you to get frozen.
Things to Avoid
*Do not impersonate Neostaff. It's extremely risky, and the chances of you getting anything out of these are going down. People have (finally) figured out that these people are liars, and they won't give out their passwords, pin, items, etc.
*Don't fall for the scams! You will end up getting your account frozen for 'falling for a scam.' (Stupid, I know.) Stay smart, and simply delete these emails.
*Do not give your email out. This is how scammers find you.
*Do not pretend that you know Neostaff. Even if you do, don't brag about it. You'll get frozen either way.
*Do not pretend that you know special codes. Nobody knows any for real, and I don't think that anyone ever will.
Neopets Rule #4 - Neo-sitting (babysitting pets, petsitting, account sitting) or any other scam used to get people's passwords.
This rule can be confusing. What it's saying, in a nut-shell, is Don't scam people to get on their accounts. Okay, friends exchange passwords all the time, right? Well, that can get you frozen, too, but this is talking about people that you don't really know, but you think you do. What you do is give them your password, and they 'pet-sit' your neopets and account so that you don't miss your dailies or 'feeding-time', right? Well, they might steal your account. Also, any other scams are reportable and shouldn't be done. Don't give your password to anyone! Even if you know them and totally trust them, you can still get frozen.
Things to Avoid
*Don't give your password to anyone! Keep your account safe, okay?
*Do not scam anyone for any reason, or take passwords from people. It won't be worth it in the long run.
*Do not offer to care for a pet or to get onto somebody else's account to help them get an avatar, or something. Even if you think they trust you, and even if you're simply trying to do a good deed, they may report you, and you will be frozen.
Neopets Rule #5 - You may not sell, trade, give or buy a Neopets account or pets for Neopoints, money, Neopets' Items, or anything else. Do not ask people to share an account with you, or offer to share yours. Do not ask or offer passwords either. This almost ALWAYS winds up with someone losing items or NP.
The first part of this rule is telling you to not sell or trade you Neopets account or your pets. You cannot sell your account or pets for real money, neopoints, or other items. It's not fair to other people, and it can pose many scams and losses of neopoints.
The next section, about sharing accounts, is also against the rules. This can result in people stealing your money. Don't share passwords, offer passwords, any of that. Try to keep your account to yourself, pretty much!
Things to Avoid
*No matter how convincing it may seem, the people who ask you to give them neopoints for their pet(s) are scammers. Do not fall for it!
*Even if they're your best friend, do not share an account. TNT can search IP addresses, and they'll see that you're sharing an account. So, even though your friend won't take your money, TNT can take your account.
*No matter what the circumstances are, don't give out your password. It won't do you any good in the long run.
Neopets Rule #6 - You may not offer web design (such as making banners, dolls, blinkies, guild layouts, etc.) or other services and use Neopets images or materials to earn money, Neopoints, or Neopets' Items. This is a violation of Neopets copyright and trademark rights and is strictly forbidden.
This rule is stating that you can't make images, banners, etc. for neopoints or items. You can, however, use Neopet images and make people banners for free. What is against the rules here is the fact that some people charge neopoints and real money to use their graphics. Some people also give money for others to make them userlookups and graphics, which is still against the rules.
Things to Avoid
*Do not make graphics for money. If they state that they will give you money to make a lookup or graphic for them, and you still want to make one for them, offer to do it for free. They obviously want a graphic pretty bad.
*Do not ask money/offer money for using your graphics. These should be free and stay that way. Keep Neo a happy place, and keep your account, while you're at it!
Neopets Rule #7 - Asking for passwords or attempting to gain access to other peoples accounts in any way (such as asking people to change their email address to your email address). Neopets will NEVER ask for your password.
Do not ask others for anyone's password! This is a reportable offense, and no matter how many warnings or suspensions that you've had, you will be most likely frozen, as this is a big deal to TNT (for good reason). You cannot ask anyone to change their passwords or email at all, as this is a scam, obviously. Stick to your own account, and remember this rule.
Things to Avoid
*Don't give anyone else your password! You could be frozen for falling for a scam, but either way, you'll have your account taken.
*Don't try to hack into somebody else's account! Chances are that you're main will be frozen and so will the hacked account.
Neopets Rule #8 - Any kind of password or shop scamming including: Posting any website that asks for passwords, fake login pages, or anything that tells you to change your email address. This includes advertising cheats or links to cheat websites, guestbooks, etc.
Never advertise for a website that has fake login pages to Neopets, asks for passwords, or asks you to alter your account for easy scamming. Do not fall for these scams, either, as that results in freezing as well. If you do advertise for these websites, you will not only get frozen, but other users may have their accounts taken. Perhaps you are meaning to do this, but I don't recommend you doing so.
Things to Avoid
*If you see a fake login page somewhere, report it. These are dangerous, and put Neopians in danger of losing their account!
*If someone asks you to advertise, or you come across a fake login page, do not advertise for it. Do not enter any of your information onto these pages, as you can get your account stolen.
*Do not make your own fake login page. It's against NeoRules and will get you frozen.
Neopets Rule #9 - There are no quick and easy ways to get rich in Neopets. You may not cheat or scam in any way. This includes the following:
Promising other players items or Neopoints if they vote for a certain Neopet in the Beauty Contest. Promising people money-making tips or million Neopoint secrets and then giving them nothing in return is a scam. Encouraging people to do the same is even worse. Do not buy, trade or sell alleged secrets or tricks anywhere on Neopets.
This rule is urging users to not sell 'cheat codes', even though there really aren't any. Keep that in mind when someone is telling you that they have a cheat code to offer you! It's also saying not to offer Neopoints if they vote for you in a contest, as that is against the rules, too. Don't promise people Neopoints on 50k-a-Day pet pages, as some people may not find the same results as others, making it a scam. Instead, say that the pet page has worked for many people, but it may not work for you.
Things to Avoid
*Stay away from cheat codes. There aren't very many, besides game tips. Game tips are allowed to be passed around, although you must give them out for free. Do not make a profit off of this!
*Don't offer Neopoints to people for voting in the Beauty Contest for you. This is bribery, and against the rules. Let people vote fairly, and let contestants win fairly.
*Make sure your pet pages are within the rules, and remind people whose aren't how to make them within the rules!
Neopets Rule #10 - Promoting paid advertising for any other web sites
Do not promote websites that have paid advertising, meaning the website pays people to promote them. It's not fair to Neopets to have other websites being promoted on their website for real money. Although, you can have graphics from the website with a credit on them that's only fair to the website. Neopets simply doesn't agree with people being paid to advertise websites.
Things to Avoid
*If you own a website, let the visitors choose whether or not they want to advertise, if at all. It's only fair to the visitors to advertise instead of being bribed to advertise.
Neopets Rule #11 - Party boards or outside chat rooms of *any* kind, including advertising for them on other websites, instant messengers, guild parties, party role playing or anywhere else. Using spaces or symbols to try to hide that word is not fooling anyone.
I think that this rule is kind of insane, but I guess it makes sense. Some parties have references to alcohol and most are for older people, but some birthday parties? I mean come on! Well, either way, do not talk about parties in any way on Neopets. Whether it's all fake, like in a roleplay, or you really are having a party later, don't tell Neo. They won't care, and one of my friends was suspended. Depending on how many suspensions you have had, you could get frozen.
Things to Avoid
*Do not try and change the name to something like 'bash'. It won't fool them; TNT can still catch it later on. You may get suspended, or even frozen.
*Do not reference to parties in roleplays, guilds, neoboards, etc. Try to avoid this word at all costs. Try to think of another topic so that you can keep your account safe.
Neopets Rule #12 - Do not discuss religious or political views anywhere on Neopets.
This is very understandable, in my opinion. Do not talk about who you want to vote for in the next presidential election, or what you think about our current president. I know, myself, that people have strong opinions on him. Also, don't talk about what religion you are and whether it is right or not. You have your beliefs, and that's okay! Preach somewhere else, just not on Neo.
Things to Avoid
*Do not talk about the government, presidents, or any other politically-related things. Keep those off Neo for your account's sake.
*Keep your religion to yourself and don't tell others what to think. That's definitely a way to get frozen.
Neopets Rule #13 - Do not spam the message boards, guild boards, or other site areas. This includes Chain Letters of any kind!
Chain letters can be found all over the NeoBoards. They might say something like Repost this in 10 other boards, and then go to Faerieland. You'll find ten baby paint brushes! It's a Neo code, so that's why it works. It really does, too!! First of all, there aren't any Neo codes. Second of all, that would totally deflate the price. Either way, they don't work.
Spamming the message boards can be several things. You could post 'N00b-ish' things on the help board, like Omg, I just lost my cat! Yes, you can get reported for posting things like that on the wrong forum. Another spam example is where you post the same thing over and over and over, really fast! This is sometimes called auto-spamming. There are many other "Spam" messages, but to some things up, Spam stands for Stupid, pointless, annoying messages. I'm pretty sure Neopians made that up.
Things to Avoid
*Do not repost chain letters! They are Spam, and don't actually work. Not to mention, they're super annoying.
*Do not spam the message boards. You can be reported, suspended, and frozen for doing this.
Well, that sums it up! I hope this guide has helped you to understand the NeoRules and will help you keep your account for years without getting frozen! Good luck!
