What's With Good and Bad?
Before you place that graphic you just made onto your site, you should really think about it! I have learned as a web master and as a graphic maker many things. One being what is good enough to place on your site and what should sit in the folder and never be seen. There are a few questions you must ask yourself before putting anything onto your site and my intention with this guide is to help you realize what is good enough for your site.
Who Would Want It?
This is the most important question to ask yourself. Be 100% honest with yourself. Really, would you use it? Would someone else want it? If not, don't bother with it. Really, if people are not going to use it, just don't waste your time and their energy scrolling for something that is obviously not going to be used by anyone. I know this sounds harsh, but filling your site with content that is useless really is useless. If you would use it, honestly, then you should continue to think about placing it on your site, but not yet!
What Did I Do?
Before placing a graphic or content onto your site, ask yourself this question: What Did I Do? Did you make significant alterations? Did you do anything besides just adding text? Adding a border? If not, you should not add it. Having things that you require credit for that you really didn't do anything to is wrong and uncalled for. Also, often these items are poor in quality or the original is recongnizable. Often these barley altered works are considered theft. If the average joe could open up paint and do it in 30 seconds, why not just make that a tutorial?
Is There Ample Credit?
Have you made sure you have credited everyone that needs to be credited? Got the brushes credited? The original image? Make sure this is done. It is one thing if credits are "not required", but chance are that is not the case. "Forgetting" credits is not an excuse. Make sure you always have the proper credits, unless you want your site to be another killed site on some major wall of shames. Seriously, just slap on the credit. It is worth the two seconds it will take you because it means your site will not be killed and you can continue to make things for your visitors.
Afterword
I think the key thing for you to remember is just be honest about your abilities and the effort you put into your work. Obviously you need to just recognize what your work's value is. Be honest and take in comments. I wish you the best of luck with your site!
