What's a Name By Any Other?
If you are like most people, when you decide to start a site the most difficult thing is deciding on what to name it. With an increasing number of sites popping up everywhere, it seems like all the good names have already been taken. This poses a challenge to webmasters. I myself am often faced with this same issue. I have come up with a few things to keep in mind while naming your site. I hope they help you or make you think a little bit more about it and you will find that perfect name for your site.
Site Purpose
One thing to keep in mind when deciding a name is your site's purpose. Is it about Neopets? Maybe a personal family page? Or maybe you want to make a page for your poems? You should somehow make it related. For example, a site called "Kitty Kat Lovers" probably wouldn't be neo-related. Or a site called "Neo-Yummy" is about a family. So just keep it so it makes sense.
What Do You Love?
Make your name represent YOU! You don't need to conform. If you love Mustangs for example, stick Mustang right into the name! Your site, so your name. One thing I do for deciding a name is write a list of all of my favorite things. Then I decide if there is something I really want in the name, such as "Neo". So I go "Neo-" and then list of my favorite things. So then you are bound to come up with something.
Short & Sweet
Keep it short and easy to remember! People won't remember something random and long. This is super important and is key. You want it to be catchy. Also, keeping it short makes it easy to add credits. Having a long name might mean having to add a really long line of a credit onto a small image or something. That wouldn't look very attractive and people may not want to use it just for that reason! So short, sweet, and easy to remember are what you want.
Love It
Never settle for a name you don't like. Make it something you are going to want for years to come. This is super important! Don't settle at all. You will regret it. I sometimes like to try it out a bit. Write a few pages using the name. Try making a graphic with your site name. This will give you a feel for what it will be like using it. If you don't like it or don't think you will like it, scratch it and start over. If you end up selecting a name you don't love, most likely you will get sick of it and want to change the name... and let me tell you, changing a name is a hassle! Just make sure you love your name before you decide!
